NFL Fantasy Tie Breakers
Your rules on ties in the regular season and playoffs might differ depending on your fantasy platform. For example, some platforms leave it as a tie in the regular season or they might give the win to the team that has the most points scored on the season.
For the playoffs, many platforms have tiebreakers that award the win to the team with the better record or the higher seed. If the teams have the same record then the win goes to the team with the better head-to-head record. If they haven’t played, the team with the more regular season points scored advances.
There isn’t a perfect answer and regardless of the decision, someone is catching an unlucky break.
Rules in a Private League
In public leagues, you cannot change the tiebreaker rules. If you are the commissioner of a private league, you can switch up the options to a different tiebreaker if you aren’t satisfied with options such as teams with the highest point total or whoever is higher in the standings.
A potential idea to determine the winner of a tie is to go by the total points scored by bench players. This is a way to settle matchups because at least it’s tied to the same game. A team is advancing based on what all of its players did in the game.
Unfortunately, there isn’t a perfect solution for any matchup that ends in a tie. Be sure to check with your league to understand what your rules are on ties. They are rare but can happen in fantasy football.
